Pete from Okanagan Stables has offered BWCS a great rate of $45 each for a 2.5 to 3 hours horse experience at the stables on highway 33 (see regular rates).  Pete was known as "Dr. Shovel" by Jeremy Hopkinson for uncovering slope hazards in his many years with Big White.   PAC has approved to subsidize half, so parents pay $22.50 per child for  an afternoon at Okanagan Stables at 1PM Friday June 29.  This gets a one horse/one staff to two kids on a program that looks at all aspects of horse husbandry including an escorted horse ride around the corals and on trails if appropriate.  I'm happy to bring a barbecue and Pete has OK'd a cowboy picnic at the stables.

You can register by leaving a comment below (give name and # of kids) or sign up at the school by Thursday June 21 at 3PM.

Here's some general information from their website;

THINGS TO KNOW

SAFETY
Safety is a very important part of all Okanagan Stables riding programmes in the Kelowna area. Riders participate in a practice warm-up before the trail ride. The time and attention taken in this session is to make sure that you are comfortable with your horse, and helps us provide the most enjoyable and safest ride possible.

Our trail rides are guided, and if necessary, young or nervous riders can be hand-led on their horse by our staff, both in the riding ring and along the trail, to ensure their safety and comfort.

Parents, if not riding, are welcome to accompany their children on the trail on foot. Children as young as two years old have participated in our programs.

Please note that we require 2 hours notice for cancellation.

WHAT TO BRING
Either long trousers or shorts are fine to ride in. Good footwear is necessary (such as runing shoes, hiking boots, or smooth-soled boots). Wearing a sports helmet is recommended.

We have riding boots and helmets available for your use, free of charge.

Don't forget to bring your camera!!!
